Yuyu The Body Bottle review
It is 5.25am and I have been awake for two hours. Firstly, with unsettled children, then with painsomnia*. Now that the kids seem to have settled and I'm sitting here with my Body Bottle strapped to me, waiting for my painkillers to kick in, it seems like a good time to write a review.
One day last year, after I had a little cry down the phone to my husband on his lunch break about my endometriosis pain coming back, he wandered in after work with a present for me: The Body Bottle by YuYu. I had never mentioned it to him, he had just spotted if after we'd hung up the phone and thought it would help. He's a treasure 💗.
The Body Bottle is essentially a really long hot water bottle, with a cosy fleece cover that has fastenings allowing you to strap it to your body. It's an endometriosis** sufferer's dream and great for anyone that suffers with period pain, back pain, shoulder pain or is sensitive to cold weather.
The instructions say it is safe to fill the bottle to the top, but that three quarters of the way is best. I agree, and actually if you're quite slim and planning on wearing it around your waist/hips then filling it to just half full allows it to curve around your body better.
I love the feature of being able to strap the bottle to your body, but the thing that impressed me most is just how long it stays hot. If I'm working from home it can last for half a work day easily, and snuggled up in bed it lasts almost the full night. It's worth pointing out though that the less you fill it, the quicker it will lose heat.
My husband bought this bottle with the idea that I'd be able to wear it under my coat on the commute to work, which sounded like a bloomin' brilliant idea for bad pain days. Unfortunately I think it's a bit too heavy for that unless I knew I was going to get a seat on the train, which rarely happens. It might be OK for others to do that, but I'm a weakling with a dodgy back.
All in all I love this handy bottle and use it often for my pelvic pain, but it's also great to hang around your shoulders when you're loaded with cold. It gets the thumbs up from me 👍
*Painsomnia: when you are beyond exhausted but you can't sleep because of ALL THE PAIN 😭
**Endometriosis: when your uterus is trying to kill you from the inside out. OK that's a lie, but it often feels like that. The official definition from Endometriosis UK is:
Endometriosis (pronounced en- doh – mee – tree – oh – sis) is the name given to the condition where cells like the ones in the lining of the womb (uterus) are found elsewhere in the body.
Each month these cells react in the same way to those in the womb, building up and then breaking down and bleeding. Unlike the cells in the womb that leave the body as a period, this blood has no way to escape.
It is a chronic and debilitating condition that causes painful or heavy periods. It may also lead to infertility, fatigue and bowel and bladder problems. Around 1.5 million women in the UK are currently living with the condition. Endometriosis can affect all women and girls of a childbearing age, regardless of race or ethnicity.
I'm glad I popped by your blog. It strikes me that endometriosis doesn't seem a particularly widely known condition.
ReplyDeleteHi Stuart, thanks for stopping by! You're quite right - it is as common as diabetes but it is estimated that only 20% of people have actually heard of it.
